Escaping Putin's Bombs

With the Russian invasion of Ukraine progressing, a lot of people are deciding to leave the country. Mainly women and children head towards the Western borders and towards Europe. Men of the ages 18 to 60 are not allowed to leave (there is some exceptions). While many travel west, some travel east to bring humanitarian goods or join the the "International Legion" of the Ukranian army. Many fleeing pass the Ukranian town of Lviv, to then board trains bound to Poland, Slovakia and Hungary. Thousands have also reached Romania and Moldova. According to the UNHCR more than 2.000.000 people have already crossed into Europe, being warmly welcomed - unless they are of the wrong skincolor. Repeatedly there was reports of mistreatement of people of color. By Ukranian military, as well as European police forces. Along the route volunteers are handing out supplies.Also in Germany makeshift shelters are prepared for first arrivals.

... is a well established german camera women with a lot of passion for her job. Becoming a camera women in reporting she aims to capture real moments during the production of feature films and her work has a documentary aspect to it. Her companion on productions across the globe: Terrier Rocky.

2018 the German Association of Cinematography (BVK) had only 18 female of approximately 300 members. The series shows Bellas work during the production of german feature film and tries to shine light on a job that is in crisis regarding gender equality.

Climate Activism in Germany

During the past years the climate crisis, consequences of global warming, our habits  of consumption and the capitalist exploitation of our resources have become a topic that society as a whole sees itself confronted with. During the globale climate strike 1.4 million people took it to the streets and demanded a mindchange in climate politics. In a variety of collective actions people offer restistance and attempt to force immediate political changes. To the activists a connection of our ecological problems and their systemic, economical cause sometimes falls short.

Deportations to Afghanistan

Since early 2017 the German government is conducting mass-deportations to Afghanistan on a monthly basis. The country that keeps being rocked by outbreaks of violence, was declared a so-called 'secure country of origin'. Reports of the UNHCR opposed this and paint the picture of a chaotic situation. Afghanistan was ranked the globally least peaceful country in Visions of Humanity's World Peace Index for the past four years. Following the withdrawal of the US and the NATO mission from the region in August 2021, the Taliban manage to seize power. Just one week before, the German federal government attempted to conduct another deportation, that was cancelled just hours before the flight. The Afghan government had urged European countries weeks before to stop deportations, due to the growing power of the Taliban. For now the last deportation to Afghanistan was conducted on July 6th from the airport of Hanover.

Exarchiea under Attack

In the Athens district of Exarcheia, numerous occupied houses and projects are threatened with eviction in September 2019. Ahrend (name changed), like many other refugees, is seeking shelter in the district. Special units of the Greek police arrest on a regular basis all those who think they are dealers in the central square of the district. So, Ahrend's life takes place between a game of hide-and-seek with the police, making music on the street and consuming. He spends the nights here and there. Because of the constant fear of being arrested he cannot really leave the quarter. In September 2019, Exarcheia is for him both home and prison.

Food Not Bombs Budapest

"Food not Bombs" is a group in Budapest supporting people in need with a weekly meal, distributed in the public. The authoritarian Orban government made homlesness practically illegal in 2018. According to reports by the MDR more than 20.000 people are estimated to be without a safe place to sleep in Hungary. People in a precarious situation are stigmazied and blamed. In 2017 the group "Food Not Bombs" tried to adress issues and support with practical aid.

Keshvari Carpenting

Somewhere in the southern part of downtown Hannover a small Persian carpenter can be found. Mr Keshvari repairs and retails carpets. According to him business is not easy, but with the skills he learned as a boy in Iran he is trying to restore and obtain the beauty of his customers carpets. A small story about his craftsmanship.

Stranded in Bavaria

Since August 2018 refugees in Bavaria are isolated in so called "ANKER" Centers, large camps inhabiting up to several thousand people. Repeatedly protest against the conditions in the camps arises, as well as attacks on refugees by the security personal in charge.

Tower Block Quarantine

In Goettingen, Lower-Saxony, "Groner Landstraße 9", a residential complex with more than 700 inhabitants was put under quarantine for several days. More than 200 had infected themselves with Covid-19. In the first days the most necessary things were missing and the complex was locked off.
